TRB Chemedica UK is proud to share the inspiring efforts of our colleague Simon Davies, who has taken on a colourful fundraising challenge: painting his nails to raise awareness and vital funds for The Cavernoma Society.
About The Cavernoma Society
The Cavernoma Society is a charity supporting people across the UK and Ireland affected by cavernomas, a condition made up of clusters of abnormal blood vessels, most commonly found in the brain or spinal cord. These can cause seizures, neurological deficits, and stroke like events depending on their size and location.
Although cavernoma can be asymptomatic, around 1 in 600 people in the UK are estimated to have one, and for hundreds diagnosed each year with symptomatic cavernoma, it can be life altering.
Since 2018, The Cavernoma Society has provided vital information, community support, and advocacy, but like many small charities, it relies heavily on donations to continue its work.
Simon’s Personal Journey
Simon was diagnosed with Multiple Cavernomas 10 years ago. These cavernomas sit in various parts of his brain and can cause sudden, unpleasant symptoms that appear without warning. It’s been a decade long journey of discovery, adjustment, resilience, and learning to live alongside something unpredictable.
Throughout these years, The Cavernoma Society has played a vital role in supporting Simon. They’ve helped him understand how to cope with and manage the condition, provided guidance through difficult moments, and even assisted him in setting up a medical alert card, which he now carries with him every day for safety and peace of mind.
Reaching the ten year anniversary of his diagnosis has prompted Simon to reflect on everything he’s experienced. The challenges, the support, and the strength he’s found along the way. Now, he wants to give something back. By raising money for The Cavernoma Society, he hopes to ensure that others like him can continue to access the same compassionate support, reliable information, and life enhancing resources that have made such a difference to him.
Simon Davies said:
“The support that I have received through my fundraiser for the Cavernoma Society means so much to me. It has reminded me that no one faces this alone. Paying the support forward matters so much to me because every pound raised brings hope, awareness, and strength to someone else walking the same path.’’
The Nail Challenge
Simon chose this challenge because it’s visible, conversation starting, and a great way to raise awareness of a condition people often haven’t encountered before. Donate here:
