9th Podiatric Sports Medicine Conference 2021

The 9th Podiatric Sports Medicine Conference, hosted by Aesculap Academia and chaired by Prof Nat Padhiar, William Harvery Research Institute, Queen Mary University of London.

On 2nd and 3rd December 2021, we were delighted to sponsor the 9th Podiatric Sports Medicine Conference. This was focused on Foot & Ankle problems in Sport, consisting of lectures and workshops delivered by professionals, who are experts and renowned in their field.

The 2 days covered a whole spectrum of problems that occur in the foot and ankle in sport. There were workshops, demonstrations and lectures surrounding current evidence for various conditions, with emphasis on diagnostic as well as treatment.
Not only did TRB UK have the opportunity to sponsor this event, we also had our very own MD and Clinical Director, Alex Flanagan, delivering a fascinating lecture on viscosupplementation, basic science, and applications in MSK practice.

Alex began the lecture by distributing out hyaluronic acid (Ostenil Plus) to delegates so they could really feel the viscosity and lubricating properties first-hand. We even had regular Ostenil users jump at the chance to feel the HA as they had not handled the substance this way previously.
The lecture, which gained the whole hall’s attention, was interesting, informative, non-biased and included a plethora of clinical data for the use of hyaluronic acid in osteoarthritis and tendinopathies. We had many podiatrists and MSK clinicians expressing their interest in Ostenil for the treatment of knee, foot and ankle problems soon after the clinical data was shown.

Another stand-out speaker was Steph Taylor, an excellent Physiotherapist and researcher currently working at the Oxford Haemophilia Centre. This lecture explained the findings of their current pilot trial which uses Ostenil Plus for haemophilic arthropathy. We are pleased to hear that the results of the study show Ostenil Plus reduces pain and improves overall function in haemophilic arthropathy. Thank you to Steph Taylor for sharing the study and these great results.

We would like to thank Aesculap Academia and Prof Nat Padhiar for organising this event, and also a big thank you to all sponsor’s, speakers and delegates for an incredible 9th Podiatric Sports Medicine Conference.
